ABSTRACT::The Indian women novelists in English have enriched Indian literature and Indian tradition. Anita Desai is one of the leading writers in the modern English literature. She has written many novels. Bye-Bye Blackbird is the best example of identity crises on one hand and the east-west encounter on the other hand. The Problem of identity crisis is very common in our society. Especially when we talk about immigrants to the other countries, they suffer a lot for their physical, psychological, cultural and social identities. They have to adjust in every aspects of life. Their rare visits to their native place mark a question into their minds about their identity. Neither they neither belong to their mother land nor belong to foreign country. The desire of luxury life and good career forces these Indian immigrants to live in foreign lands.
