TITLE : MANAGEMENT SKILLS OF LIBRARIANS ON CYBERSECURITY FOR DIGITAL LIBRARY SERVICES PROVISION IN FEDERAL COLLEGES OF EDUCATION, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT: This study examined cybersecurity management skills among 180 academic/professional librarians from eight Federal Colleges of Education across Nigeria. Using correlational research design with questionnaires and interviews (93% response rate), researchers found librarians had relatively high awareness of basic cybersecurity management issues like budget management but low awareness of technical aspects such as designing cybersecurity architecture. The study identified three categories of required cybersecurity skills: technical (server protection, virus management), managerial (team leadership during threats), and soft skills. Major barriers to skill acquisition included rapid technological change, librarians limited digital technology skills, absence of cybersecurity courses in Library and Information Science curricula and lack of specialized training programs. Results showed a strong significant relationship between librarians’ cybersecurity management skills and effective digital library service provision. The study recommended integrating cybersecurity management courses into LIS curricula through university LIS school collaboration and prioritizing librarian cybersecurity training through library management, associations and professional bodies to enhance digital library services in Nigerian educational institutions.
