TITLE :INFORMATION SOURCES IN THE FIELD OF HORTICULTURE WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO OLERICULTURE: A CASE STUDY OF COMMON WEALTH AGRICULTURAL BUREAU (CAB) ABSTRACTS

ABSTRACT:Like diversity in culture, food habit & religion, India also possesses the diversity in soil category and climatic conditions. Variety of crop production is an outcome of this unique richness. As production of ‘Horticultural crops’ becomes beneficial to the farmers in terms of crop output vs. input ratio, the area of cultivation of horticultural crops is increasing steadily for the last few years. To keep pace with this steady growth of horticultural crop production, necessary time-specific information support becomes utmost essential. ‘Olericulture’ is a branch of ‘Horticulture’ which defines vegetable crop production. In this article, the important information sources in the subject under study i.e. ‘Olericulture’ have been identified. One of the important abstracting sources in the field of horticulture i.e. CAB Abstracts have been scanned for the span of 1992-2015.Yearwise publication of important sources has been analyzed and results have been interpreted. The trends of research in the specific subject field have also been traced.
