ABSTRACT:From ancient time , people have visited libraries to satisfy their informational needs and the practical needs of housing collections and accommodating readers have typically fulfilled by library planning and building designing. Library planning is the deliberate, preferred manner of preparing for library service in the future. Library planning, Building and architecture help us to understand that the physical presence of a library has great importance for its users. In this study, Reference section of central library (3rd Floor), University of Calcutta has been taken into consideration to find out various planning related key points and to identify how the services provided by the library can fit into its physical dimension along with the things those help libraries to plan and evaluate their services and meet the needs of their users in the most effective way their resources will allow. Due to access reason some parts of the floor are not taken into consideration. Only permissible areas for general viewers are considered here. To complete this study observation method has been used. Free flow of conversation using unstructured questionnaires with library staffs are also used to gather information. On the basis of findings and analysis, conclusion has been drawn.
