TITLE :INCLUSION OF THE EXCLUDES: ROLE OF LIBRARIES IN SUPPORTING INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

ABSTRACT:Education supports development. It facilitates lifelong learning and independent decision making. Libraries around the world have acknowledged this importance of education and tirelessly rendering their valuable services to the mankind. However, inclusive education is still a dream for us. To achieve the goal of inclusive education, strong backing from libraries are required. In India, knowledge resources available in most of the Libraries are not in accessible format. In such a situation, Persons with Print Disabilities find it very difficult to access information. This non-availability of information results in exclusion, which is a hindrance in achieving inclusive growth. This paper discusses various assistive technologies that can be adopted by libraries to make non-accessible materials accessible. This paper also discusses the challenges involved in the process. The author has also proposed a prototype to deploy Artificial Intelligence to provide information services to Persons with Print Disabilities.
