TITLE :MANAGEMENT OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES IN THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES: WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO FIVE UNIVERSITIES IN KERALA

ABSTRACT:There has been a substantial increase in the production of electronic content in the past 15 years. The proliferation of e-publishing across the world has revolutionised the domain of publishing, especially scholarly publishing. Recent research and developments in E-publishing offer ways to bring in a new equilibrium to the publication ecosystem, scholarly as well as trade. As result, there has been a substantial increase in the digital collections and electronic information in the academic and research libraries. Among these, scholarly e-resources form the major chunk of electronic information sourced by organizations and they are growing at a phenomenal rate. To meet the ever increasing demand from the users, a major portion of the institutional budget is set apart for the subscription of e-resources. Additionally, institutions are getting access to a large number of e-resources through membership in various library consortia.
The present study is a probe into the area of the electronic resource management. E-resources are being acquired in university libraries at a fast rate. So there is a need to study the various aspects related to the strategies adopted by libraries in the collection building and management of e-resources in the universities. The study focuses on the university libraries of five universities.
